Apple Orchards + Pumpkin Patches – Fall in Minnesota

Fall Activities in Minnesota

If there is one thing that gets my heart racing it is the changing of the leaves, sweater weather, and that golden glow that seems to make everything a little dreamier. This weekend I had a total MN outdoor experience. A very cliche fall weekend filled with brunch, pumpkins, apples, a wine festival, and plenty of fresh northern air.

Saturday started with a bang, I will spare you the details, but brunch was first on the agenda. Off we went to eat with the blue hairs, and literally opened the Copper Hen Kitchen & Cakery at 8:00 am. We sat down to what felt like a private brunch since we were the only ones present. My girl friend Ali and I decided to ditch our husbands and hit the road in search of an apple orchard that would let us “pick” our own. Our journey (by accident) took us to Buffalo, Minnesota, to a quaint little orchard, Deer Lake Orchard.

A family owned and operated business that will leave you feeling like you stepped on the farm with Laura Ingalls Wilder. Trust me, the drive is great and it is definitely worth your journey. We hit the apple trees, and those little honeycrisp’s didn’t stand a chance. With our bags filled, hats purchased, music enjoyed, we were satisfied. We headed home with our goods and were ready to bake. If you are in search of an apple recipe go to Pinterest and just start salivating. There are so many amazing recipes for fall it is almost overwhelming.

Sunday was another favorite day so far this fall. I begged my husband to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Wit plans to cheer on the runners at Lake Harriet, oversleeping left us in a panic and we scurried out the door just in time to see the Twin Cities Marathon runners pass by. Feeling a bit nostalgic post race, we headed out in search of a pumpkin patch and stumbled across the most adorable little treasure in Shakopee.

Peter’s Pumpkins & Carmen’s Corn is simply the most precious spot and you have to go and visit. We purchased our pumpkins, vegetables, and most importantly brought home a jar of salsa that had me going crazy. This Texan doesn’t mess around when it comes to salsa and this is by far the freshest homemade salsa I have ever tasted. Carmen uses all the veggies picked straight from her farm and you can taste it.  Lately nothing means more to me than being able to support the local, mom and pop businesses. In a world of massive conglomerates it is nice to see a small little place like Peter’s surviving and thriving.
